Invisalign to Straighten Your Teeth Without the Brackets

If you’ve been wanting straighter teeth but the idea of metal braces has kept you from doing anything about it, Invisalign might be the answer you’ve been looking for. Clear, removable, and custom-made for your teeth, it’s an orthodontic treatment that works around your life rather than disrupting it.

At Scottsdale Family Dentistry, we provide Invisalign treatment for teens and adults throughout Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, and Phoenix. As an experienced Invisalign provider, we use advanced digital planning to map your treatment from start to finish before your first aligner is even made.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners, each one slightly different from the last, to move your teeth gradually into their target positions. You wear each set for one to two weeks, then switch to the next. Each new aligner builds on the movement of the previous one.

Because the aligners are removable, you take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, brush, and floss. Your diet doesn’t change. Your cleaning routine doesn’t change. And because they’re virtually invisible when worn, most people around you won’t notice anything at all.

The process is guided by 3D digital scanning and planning technology, which maps out the entire movement of your teeth from beginning to end. You can actually see a preview of your projected result before treatment begins, something traditional braces can’t offer.

Is Invisalign Right for You?

Invisalign works well for a wide range of alignment issues in both teens and adults. It’s particularly effective for:

  • Mild to moderate crowding or spacing
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbite, underbite, or crossbite (in many cases)
  • Teeth that have relapsed after previous orthodontic treatment
  • Patients who want a discreet, comfortable option

It does have limits. Very complex bite corrections or significant jaw discrepancies may still be better suited to traditional braces, or may require a combination approach. We’ll give you an honest assessment at your consultation, including whether Invisalign is genuinely the right tool for your situation or whether another option would serve you better.

The one real requirement for Invisalign success is consistency. Aligners need to be worn 20 to 22 hours per day. Patients who commit to wearing them as directed get excellent results. Those who wear them only part-time extend their treatment significantly or don’t achieve the intended result. If you know compliance will be a challenge, it’s worth discussing upfront.

Invisalign Options We Offer

Invisalign Full is the comprehensive option for patients with moderate to complex alignment needs. It includes as many aligner sets as needed to complete treatment and is suitable for most adult and teen cases. Treatment typically runs between 12 and 18 months.

Invisalign Lite is designed for milder cases, minor crowding, small gaps, or mild relapse after previous orthodontic treatment. It involves fewer aligners, costs less, and typically completes in six months or less.

Invisalign Express is for very minor corrections and touch-ups. It’s fast, affordable, and well-suited for patients whose teeth have shifted slightly and need a relatively small amount of movement.

Invisalign Teen is the same technology adapted specifically for younger patients. It includes compliance indicator dots that fade with wear, useful for parents and patients to confirm aligners are being worn as directed, and accounts for teeth that are still growing.

We’ll recommend the right option based on your X-rays, digital scans, and treatment goals.

What to Expect During Treatment

Consultation and scanning: We examine your teeth and take a 3D digital scan (no messy impressions). The scan feeds directly into the Invisalign planning software, where we map out your full treatment and preview the projected outcome.

Aligner fabrication: Your custom aligners are manufactured and typically arrive within a few weeks. Each one is made to precise specifications for your teeth at that stage of treatment.

Starting treatment: We fit your first aligners and in some cases attach small tooth-colored attachments — tiny dots of composite bonded to specific teeth to help the aligners grip and apply more targeted force. Not everyone needs these.

Check-in appointments: Unlike braces, you don’t need frequent adjustment visits. Check-ins are typically every six to eight weeks to review progress and provide your next sets of aligners.

Refinements: Sometimes additional aligners are needed at the end of treatment to fine-tune the result. This is normal and is built into the process.

Retention: Just like with braces, retainers are worn after treatment to maintain your results. Most Invisalign patients use clear retainers similar in appearance to their aligners.

Cost and Affordability

Invisalign cost in Scottsdale varies depending on which treatment tier you need and the complexity of your case. Invisalign Full is generally comparable in cost to traditional braces. Invisalign Lite and Express are noticeably less expensive.

We provide a clear breakdown of costs before treatment begins, no surprises. We’ll also discuss flexible payment options to make treatment accessible regardless of where you’re starting from.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Invisalign take?
Anywhere from three to four months for Express cases, up to 18 months or more for Full treatment. Your specific timeline depends on how much movement is needed.

Does it hurt?
You’ll feel pressure when you switch to a new set of aligners — that pressure is the treatment working. It’s generally milder than the soreness after braces adjustments and settles within a day or two.

Can I eat and drink normally?
Yes, you remove aligners to eat and drink anything other than water. There are no dietary restrictions. Just clean your teeth before putting aligners back in.

Will it affect my speech?
Most patients adjust within a few days. There can be a slight lisp initially while your tongue adapts to the plastic. It’s temporary.

What if I lose an aligner?
Contact us. Replacements can be ordered. In the meantime, we’ll advise whether you should go back to your previous set or move forward to the next one.

Can Invisalign fix severe issues?
It handles a wider range of cases than most people expect, but there are limits. Complex bite corrections involving significant jaw movement are usually better addressed with braces or in conjunction with other treatments. We’ll tell you clearly which category you fall into.
